I basically live in a zoo. I have 7 dogs and 3 birds keeping me company at home. And I love it! They need me and I need them. Each one has their own distinct personality and own needs. They trust me to do what’s best for them, and in return, they give me their undivided love and attention. Each of them is unique and beautiful. I love that animals don’t play games, when you treat them well, they love you unconditionally. I love the feel of their warm bodies, I love to watch them play, I love to see them be exactly who they were meant to be. I am grateful for the joy they bring to my home.
Personally, I can say, my pets aid my mental health. I can’t imagine living in a home without them, something about the aura of my home without pets, feels empty to me. My dogs especially, encourage me to exercise because it’s important for their health that they be walked regularly. Even petting them calms my mind and helps me to focus on something other than my troubles. They give me a sense of purpose and a feeling of being wanted and needed. When no one else is home, they make the house feel warm and welcoming. I feel a sense of security in having them there with me.
Do you have a pet? Not everyone feels comfortable with animals, but when you do, they easily become part of your family. Maybe you’re more of a cat person, or you enjoy watching fish in an aquarium, it doesn’t matter, any animal can help your mood. One study reported 87% of people with cats found that it had a positive impact on their wellbeing, while 76% said they could cope with everyday life much better because of their feline friends.
If you feel your home would be a good fit for a pet, please consider reaching out to animal rescue organizations near you. Most organizations will work with you to find the perfect fit for you and your new pet. Their goal is to make sure that both of you will have an overall beautiful experience together. Not only will you have the pleasure of giving an animal a good life, but that pet may help your health! That’s a pretty good investment if you ask me!
